💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, protective gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Instructions:
    1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
    2. Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
    3. Use the jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands.
    4. Remove the wheel by fully unscrewing the lug nuts.
2. Remove Brake Caliper
  1. Locate the caliper bolts on the back of the caliper.
  2. Use the socket set to remove the caliper bolts (usually 13mm or 15mm).
  3. Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and suspend it using a bungee cord or similar to avoid stress on the brake line.
  4. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
3. Inspect and Clean
  1. Inspect the brake rotor for any signs of damage or excessive wear.
  2. Clean the rotor surface with brake cleaner to remove any dust or debris.
  3. Check the caliper for proper operation and any signs of leaking brake fluid.
4. Install New Brake Pads
  1. Apply brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent squeaking.
  2. Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they fit snugly.
  3. Use the C-clamp or brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing to create space for the new pads.
  4. Reinstall the caliper over the new brake pads, aligning it properly with the rotor.
5. Reassemble and Torque
  1. Reinstall the caliper bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (typically around 30-40 Nm).
  2. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  3. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 120 Nm).
