Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to avoid electrical shorts.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool down to prevent burns.
2. Remove Fuel Sender Unit
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdriver, fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Locate the fuel sender unit under the rear seat or trunk floor, depending on the model.
  • Remove any covers or panels to access the fuel tank.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines using the fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Unplug the electrical connector from the fuel sender.
  • Unscrew the retaining ring and carefully lift the fuel sender unit out of the tank.
3. Inspect and Test Fuel Sender
  • Inspect the fuel level sensor for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.
  • Using a multimeter, measure the resistance of the sensor:
    • At empty position - should read close to 0 ohms.
    • At full position - should read close to 90-100 ohms.
  • If readings are outside this range, replace the fuel sender unit.
4. Install New Fuel Sender (if applicable)
  • Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly on the O-ring of the new sender to ensure a proper seal.
  • Carefully position the new fuel sender back into the tank.
  • Secure it with the retaining ring, ensuring it is tight but not over-torqued to avoid damage.
  • Reconnect the electrical connector and fuel lines.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach any covers or panels removed during disassembly.
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Start the vehicle and check the fuel gauge operation.
  • Fill the tank and confirm the gauge accurately reflects the fuel level.
