Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely supported.
2. Replace Transmission Range Sensor
  1. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)

    • Use a socket set to remove any bolts securing the engine cover.
    • Carefully lift off the cover and set aside.
  2. Access Transmission Range Sensor

    • Locate the TRS, typically mounted on the side of the transmission.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor by pressing the release tab and pulling it off.
  3. Remove Old Sensor

    • Unscrew the mounting bolts securing the TRS using a socket set.
    • Carefully pull the sensor out of its housing, ensuring no debris falls into the transmission.
  4. Install New Sensor

    • Apply a small amount of transmission fluid to the O-ring of the new TRS to ensure a proper seal.
    • Insert the new sensor into the transmission and secure it with the mounting bolts, tightening to manufacturer's torque specifications (usually around 8-10 Nm).
    • Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks into place.
3. Reassemble and Test
  1. Reinstall Engine Cover

    • Place the engine cover back on and secure it with the bolts removed earlier.
  2. Reconnect Battery

    • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
  3. Check Fluid Levels

    • Inspect the transmission fluid level and add fluid if necessary to reach the proper level.
  4. Clear Codes and Test Drive

    • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0702 code and any other stored codes.
    • Perform a test drive to assess shifting performance and ensure the code does not reappear.
