Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, wheel chocks, lug wrench, brake cleaner, torque wrench, socket set, protective gloves, safety glasses.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Raise the vehicle and remove the lug nuts completely.
  • Remove the wheel to access the brake components.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the caliper by unbolting it (usually two bolts).
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor; use a bungee cord to hang it without stressing the brake line.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Sub-steps:
    • If pads are worn down to the metal backing, replace them.
    • Measure the thickness of the new pads against the old ones to ensure they are appropriate.
    • Apply brake lubricant to the back of the new brake pads to prevent squeaking.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • Check the rotors for deep grooves or warping; use a micrometer to measure rotor thickness.
  • If rotors are damaged or below the minimum thickness, remove them by unscrewing the retaining screws (if equipped) and sliding them off the hub.
  • Install new rotors by reversing the removal process.
5. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new brake pads and rotor.
  • Tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque (consult service manual for exact torque settings).
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
6. Lower Vehicle and Finalize
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads against the rotors.
