Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel.
  • Remove the wheel to gain access to the shock absorber.
4. Remove the Old Shock Absorber
  • Locate the upper mounting bolts of the shock absorber inside the trunk.
  • Remove any covers or trim pieces that obstruct access.
  • Use a socket wrench to remove the upper mounting bolts.
  • Unbolt the lower end of the shock absorber from the lower control arm.
  • Carefully remove the shock absorber from its mounting location.
5. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Position the new shock absorber in place, ensuring it aligns with the mounting holes.
  • First, install the lower end of the shock absorber to the lower control arm and secure it with the bolt.
  • Then, attach the upper mounting bolts and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 30 Nm for upper bolts and 80 Nm for lower bolts). Refer to the service manual for exact values.
6. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 120 Nm).
  • Replace any trim pieces or covers that were removed.
