Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands
    1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel corresponding to the shock absorber being replaced.
    2. Use the jack to lift the vehicle and place jack stands under the frame for safety.
    3. Remove the wheel to access the shock absorber.
3. Remove the Old Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench, torque wrench
    1. Locate the upper and lower mounting bolts of the shock absorber.
    2. Remove the lower mounting bolt first, using a socket and ratchet.
    3. Next, remove the upper mounting bolts. If necessary, use penetrating oil to loosen rusty bolts.
    4. Carefully extract the shock absorber from its mounting location.
4. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench
    1. Position the new shock absorber in place, aligning it with the mounting holes.
    2. Insert the lower mounting bolt and hand-tighten it.
    3. Install the upper mounting bolts, hand-tightening them as well.
    4. Use a torque wrench to tighten all bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque settings (consult the service manual for exact values).
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench
    1. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
    2. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands using the jack.
    3. Once the vehicle is on the ground, fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specified torque.
    4. Dispose of the old shock absorber responsibly.
