Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Floor jack and jack stands
    • Oil catch pan
    • OBD-II scanner (if needed)
    • Cleaning materials (rags, brake cleaner)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface before lifting.
    • Disconnect the battery if working on electrical components.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place an oil catch pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the drain plug or lower the transmission pan to allow fluid to drain completely.
  • Clean the area around the drain plug to prevent contamination.
3. Replace Gaskets and Seals
  • Transmission Pan Gasket:

    • Remove the old gasket material from the pan and transmission surface using a scraper.
    • Apply RTV silicone sealant (if applicable) and install the new gasket.
    • Reinstall the transmission pan and torque bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 10-12 Nm).
  • Input/Output Shaft Seals:

    • Remove the driveshaft or axles as necessary to access the seals.
    • Use a seal puller to remove old seals.
    • Apply a small amount of transmission fluid to the lips of the new seals and install them carefully.
4. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Locate the fill plug and use a funnel to refill the transmission with the specified fluid type (typically ATF compatible with BMW specifications).
  • Check the fluid level with the dipstick and add fluid as necessary.
5. Test for Leaks
  • Start the vehicle and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  • Check for any signs of leakage around the replaced gaskets and seals.
  • Test drive the vehicle and monitor for any unusual symptoms.
