Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, power steering fluid, pressure gauge, fluid catch pan.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is turned off.
  • Put on safety goggles and gloves.
2. Check and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
    2. Remove the cap and check the fluid level; add fluid if low, using the recommended fluid type.
    3. If the fluid is dirty or contaminated, drain it from the reservoir and replace it with fresh fluid.
    4. Refill the reservoir to the appropriate level and replace the cap.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if needed)
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
    2. Remove the belt from the power steering pump by loosening the tensioner.
    3. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the power steering pump, allowing any residual fluid to drain into the catch pan.
    4. Remove the mounting bolts of the power steering pump and take out the pump.
    5. Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are secure.
    6. Reconnect the battery and refill the power steering fluid reservoir.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to expel air from the system.
    2. Check the fluid level again and add more fluid if necessary.
    3. Inspect for any leaks around the pump and hoses.
