Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and the engine is off.
  • Safety gear: gloves and safety glasses.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  1. Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  2. Remove the cap and inspect the fluid level.
  3. If low, add the appropriate power steering fluid (consult owner’s manual for specifications).
  4. Replace the cap securely after filling.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  2. Remove any engine covers or components obstructing access to the power steering pump.
  3. Disconnect the power steering fluid hoses from the pump, using a container to catch any fluid.
  4. Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket.
  5. Install the new power steering pump, tightening bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque (consult repair manual).
  6. Reconnect the power steering hoses securely.
4. Inspect and Replace Drive Belt (if necessary)
  1. Check the tension and condition of the drive belt connected to the power steering pump.
  2. If cracked or worn, remove the belt by loosening the tensioner pulley.
  3. Install the new drive belt, ensuring it is correctly routed over all pulleys.
  4. Adjust the tension as per manufacturer specifications.
5. Bleed Power Steering System
  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system.
  3. Check the fluid level again and add as necessary.
