Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, screwdriver set.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the vehicle.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in a safe, stable position with adequate lighting.
2. Access the Fuel Level Sending Unit
  • Remove the rear seat or access panel to locate the fuel pump assembly.
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors and hoses from the fuel pump.
  • Remove the retaining ring using a suitable tool or a hammer and a flat screwdriver.
  • Carefully lift the fuel pump assembly out of the tank.
3. Inspect and Test the Fuel Level Sending Unit
  • Remove the fuel level sending unit from the assembly.
  • Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the sending unit as you move the float arm. The resistance should change smoothly.
  • If the resistance readings are erratic or out of range, replace the fuel level sending unit.
4. Reassemble Components
  • If the sending unit is replaced, install the new unit in reverse order of removal.
  • Ensure all electrical connections are secure, and hoses are reattached properly.
  • Replace the retaining ring and secure the fuel pump assembly back into the tank.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and check the fuel gauge operation, ensuring it accurately reflects the fuel level in the tank.
