Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Lift the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for better access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the steering column from the steering rack by removing the bolts securing it.
  • Detach the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
  • Remove the bolts securing the steering rack to the chassis.
  • Carefully slide the steering rack out from its mounts.
3. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect the old steering rack for damage or excessive wear.
  • Compare it with the new steering rack to ensure compatibility.
  • If replacing, install the new steering rack in the reverse order of removal.
    • Ensure that all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications.
    • Reattach the tie rod ends and secure them properly.
4. Refill and Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with the recommended fluid type.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed air from the system.
  • Check fluid levels and top off as needed.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach the front wheels and lower the vehicle.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Perform a test drive to ensure proper steering function and listen for any unusual noises.
