Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Funnel
    • Turkey baster or fluid siphon
    • Clean rags
    • OBD-II scanner (for verification)
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off. Allow the engine to cool if it was previously running.
2. Drain Old Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir under the hood.
  • Use a turkey baster or fluid siphon to remove as much old fluid as possible from the reservoir.
  • Wipe the inside of the reservoir with a clean rag to remove any residue.
3. Refill with New Fluid
  • Using a funnel, pour new power steering fluid (recommended type: BMW ATF fluid) into the reservoir until it reaches the "MAX" line.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to circulate the new fluid through the system.
4. Flush the System
  • With the engine running, repeat the process of draining and refilling the fluid while turning the steering wheel to help push out old fluid.
  • Continue this process until the fluid appears clean and free of contaminants.
5. Final Check
  • After flushing, ensure the fluid level is at the correct level (between "MIN" and "MAX").
  • Check for any leaks around the reservoir and lines, and clean up any spilled fluid.
