Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands.
  • Lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Drain Power Steering Fluid
  • Tools Required: Fluid catch basin.
  • Place a fluid catch basin under the steering rack.
  • Open the power steering fluid reservoir cap and use a pump or siphon to drain the fluid from the reservoir.
4. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, torque wrench.
  • Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering rack.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from the subframe and carefully remove it from the vehicle.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the rack. Be prepared for any remaining fluid to leak out.
5. Replace Seals or Rack
  • Tools Required: Seal kit (if applicable), replacement steering rack (if necessary).
  • If replacing seals, remove old seals from the steering rack and install new ones according to manufacturer specifications.
  • If the steering rack is damaged, install the new rack by reversing the removal steps.
6. Reinstall Steering Rack
  • Reconnect the power steering lines to the steering rack.
  • Secure the steering rack to the subframe with the bolts and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Reconnect the steering shaft to the steering rack.
7. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Refill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid type as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Ensure the reservoir cap is securely fastened.
8. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
