Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Gloves, safety goggles, jack and jack stands, brake fluid, brake line wrench, clean rags.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface, and the engine is off. Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Identify and Repair Leak Source
  • Brake Lines:

    1. Remove any protective covers or shields that obstruct access to the brake lines.
    2. Use a line wrench to loosen the fittings at both ends of the damaged line.
    3. Remove the damaged brake line and replace it with a new one, ensuring proper routing.
    4. Torque the fittings to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Brake Calipers:

    1. Lift the vehicle and remove the wheel to access the brake caliper.
    2. Check the caliper for leaks and if necessary, replace the caliper.
    3. Remove the brake line from the caliper, then install the new caliper and torque the fittings.
  • Master Cylinder:

    1. Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and clean the area around it to prevent contamination.
    2. Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder and remove the mounting bolts.
    3. Replace the master cylinder with a new unit and reconnect the brake lines, torquing to specifications.
3. Refill and Bleed Brake System
  1. Refill the brake fluid reservoir with the correct type of brake fluid (DOT 4).
  2. Bleed the brake system using the proper sequence (e.g., starting from the furthest wheel from the master cylinder).
  3. Ensure there are no air bubbles in the system and check brake pedal firmness.
