Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts before starting the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Lift the vehicle using a hydraulic jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Use a lug wrench to remove the wheel nuts and take off the wheel.
  • Store the wheel in a safe location.
3. Inspect and Measure Brake Rotors
  • Use a dial indicator to measure rotor runout; check for warping.
  • If the rotor exceeds manufacturer specifications (generally over 0.002 inches), it needs to be resurfaced or replaced.
4. Replace or Resurface Rotors
  • If replacing rotors:
    • Remove caliper bolts and carefully lift the caliper away from the rotor.
    • Remove the rotor by unscrewing any retaining screws.
    • Install the new rotor, ensuring it’s properly seated.
  • If resurfacing rotors:
    • Take the rotors to a professional machine shop for resurfacing.
5. Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Apply brake grease to the back of the new pads to reduce noise.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
6. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the brake caliper over the new pads and torque the caliper bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts to the specified torque.
  • Lower the vehicle and pump the brake pedal to ensure proper pad seating.
