Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Drain Power Steering Fluid
  • Place a drain pan under the steering rack.
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap to allow fluid to drain.
  • Disconnect the return line from the steering rack and allow fluid to drain into the pan.
3. Remove Steering Rack
  • Raise the vehicle securely on jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for easier access.
  • Disconnect any components obstructing the steering rack, such as the tie rods and any brackets.
  • Remove the bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe.
  • Carefully slide the steering rack out of the vehicle.
4. Inspect and Replace Seals
  • Examine the steering rack for damaged seals or bushings.
  • If seals are worn, remove the old seals and clean the grooves.
  • Install new seals, ensuring they are seated properly.
5. Reinstall Steering Rack
  • Reverse the removal process to reinstall the steering rack.
  • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Reattach the tie rods and any other disconnected components.
6. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Reconnect the return line to the steering rack.
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the manufacturer-recommended fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge air from the system.
