Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and allow the engine to cool down completely.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Inspect and Replace Coolant
  • Tools Needed: Coolant funnel, drain pan, and new coolant (BMW-approved).
  • Place a drain pan under the radiator and open the drain valve to empty the existing coolant.
  • Close the drain valve and refill the system with the appropriate type and mixture of coolant.
  • Run the engine and monitor the coolant level, adding more as necessary until the system is full.
3. Replace Thermostat
  • Tools Needed: Socket set, torque wrench, and gasket scraper.
  • Locate the thermostat housing on the engine.
  • Remove the hoses connected to the thermostat housing and unbolt the housing from the engine.
  • Remove the old thermostat and clean the mounting surface on the engine.
  • Install the new thermostat with a new gasket, reattach the housing, and tighten bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
4. Check and Replace Radiator Fan
  • Tools Needed: Screwdriver set and multimeter.
  • Check the radiator fan operation by connecting it directly to a power source.
  • If the fan does not operate, remove it from the vehicle and replace it with a new unit.
  • Reinstall the fan and reconnect all electrical connectors.
