Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and safety equipment.
  • Tools required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, pry bar, and a flashlight.
  • Safety warnings: Always ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported on jack stands before working underneath.
2. Inspect and Replace Components

a. Control Arm and Bushings

  • Remove the wheel on the affected side using a socket set.
  • Use a pry bar to check for play in the control arm bushings. If they are worn, replace them.
  • To replace the control arm:
    1. Remove the bolts securing the control arm to the subframe and steering knuckle.
    2. Install the new control arm and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 75 Nm).

b. CV Joint and Axles

  • Inspect the CV joint for torn boots or excessive play.
  • If damaged, replace the CV joint:
    1. Remove the axle nut using a socket.
    2. Disconnect the lower control arm to free the axle.
    3. Slide out the old CV joint and install the new one.
    4. Reassemble and torque the axle nut to manufacturer specifications (usually around 200 Nm).

c. Steering Components

  • Inspect the tie rod ends and steering rack for wear.
  • If the tie rod ends are worn, replace them:
    1. Remove the cotter pin and nut securing the tie rod end.
    2. Use a tie rod puller to detach it from the steering knuckle.
    3. Install the new tie rod end and torque the nut to manufacturer specifications.
