Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, multimeter, fluid catch pan, funnel.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues while working on the transmission.
2. Check Fluid Level and Condition
  • Remove the transmission dipstick (if equipped) and wipe it clean.
  • Reinsert the dipstick and remove it again to check the fluid level.
  • If low, add the correct transmission fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
  • If the fluid is discolored or smells burnt, a fluid change is necessary.
3. Replace Transmission Fluid and Filter
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fluid catch pan, funnel.
  • Drain the old transmission fluid into the fluid catch pan by removing the drain plug.
  • Remove the transmission pan and discard the old gasket.
  • Change the transmission filter by removing any retaining screws and installing the new filter.
  • Clean the transmission pan and install a new gasket.
  • Reinstall the pan and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Fill the transmission with new fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel.
4. Test Transmission Solenoids
  • Tools Required: Multimeter.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
  • Set the multimeter to the resistance setting and measure the resistance across the solenoid terminals.
  • Compare the readings to the specifications provided in the repair manual.
  • Replace any faulty solenoids with new units.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test Drive
  • Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle.
  • Allow it to reach operating temperature and take the car for a test drive to ensure proper shifting.
