Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, U-joint removal tool, grease, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely lifted using jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  1. Loosen Drive Shaft Bolts:

    • Use a socket set to remove the bolts connecting the driveshaft to the differential.
    • Support the driveshaft to prevent it from dropping.
  2. Remove Driveshaft:

    • Slide the driveshaft out of the transmission or transfer case carefully.
    • Place it on a clean work surface.
3. Remove Old U-Joint
  1. Secure Driveshaft:
    • Clamp the driveshaft in a vice or use a U-joint removal tool to secure it.
  2. Remove U-Joint:
    • Use a hammer and U-joint removal tool to press out the old U-joint from the driveshaft yoke.
    • Ensure to remove all retaining clips if applicable.
4. Install New U-Joint
  1. Lubricate New U-Joint:
    • Apply grease to the new U-joint's needle bearings.
  2. Press in New U-Joint:
    • Align the new U-joint with the driveshaft yoke and use a U-joint tool to press it into place.
    • Ensure it is seated properly.
  3. Install Retaining Clips:
    • Install any retaining clips that hold the U-joint in place.
5. Reinstall Driveshaft
  1. Position Driveshaft:
    • Align the driveshaft with the transmission or transfer case and insert it.
  2. Secure Bolts:
    • Reinstall the bolts to the differential and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 30-40 Nm, but verify with a service manual).
6. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Lower the vehicle and perform a final inspection of the installation.
