Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:

    • Socket set
    • Fluid transfer pump
    • Drain pan
    • Funnel
    • Safety glasses
    • Gloves
  • Steps:

    1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
    2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Drain Old Power Steering Fluid
  • Steps:
    1. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump.
    2. Locate the return hose connected to the power steering reservoir.
    3. Using a socket set, remove the hose clamp and disconnect the return hose, allowing the fluid to drain into the pan.
3. Flush the System (Optional but Recommended)
  • Steps:
    1. Reconnect the return hose temporarily without the clamp.
    2. Fill the power steering reservoir with new fluid.
    3. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to circulate the new fluid.
    4. Turn off the engine and disconnect the return hose again to drain the old fluid again.
4. Refill with New Power Steering Fluid
  • Steps:
    1. Replace the return hose and secure it with the clamp.
    2. Pour the recommended power steering fluid (check owner’s manual for specifications) into the reservoir using a funnel until it reaches the proper level.
    3. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, turning the steering wheel to ensure the new fluid circulates.
5. Final Check
  • Steps:
    1. After running the engine, check the fluid level again and top off if necessary.
    2. Inspect for leaks around the pump and hoses.
    3. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
