💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the job.
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • C-clamp or brake caliper tool
    • Socket set (including 13mm and 15mm sockets)
    • Torque wrench
    • Brake cleaner
    • Bungee cord or rope (to hang caliper)
  • Parts Required:
    • New brake pads
    • Brake grease or anti-squeal lubricant
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported by jack stands before working.
    • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Remove Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  2. Raise the vehicle using the jack and support it with jack stands.
  3. Completely remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Brake Caliper
  1. Locate the caliper bolts (usually two bolts on the back of the caliper) and remove them using the appropriate socket.
  2. Carefully lift the caliper off the rotor.
  3. Support the caliper with a bungee cord or rope to avoid straining the brake line.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  1. Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
  2. Inspect the caliper bracket and rotor for wear or damage.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  1. Apply brake grease to the back of the new brake pads and any contact points on the caliper bracket.
  2. Position the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
6. Compress Brake Caliper Piston
  1. Use a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing, creating space for the new pads.
  2. Ensure the piston is fully retracted.
7. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  1. Position the caliper back over the new brake pads.
  2. Reinstall and tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (typically around 32 Nm or 23 lb-ft).
  3. Repeat the process for the other side if necessary.
8. Reinstall Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  2. Hand-tighten the lug nuts and lower the vehicle.
  3. Once on the ground, use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 120 Nm or 88 lb-ft).
9. Test Brake Functionality
  1. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the new pads.
  2. Check for proper brake function before driving.
