Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, brake cleaner, new brake pads, and possibly a brake pad wear sensor.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake, and turn off the ignition.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels for additional safety.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Completely remove the loosened lug nuts and take off the wheel.
  • Set the wheel aside in a safe location.
4. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts and remove them using a socket.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor. Do not let it hang by the brake line; use a bungee cord or similar to secure it.
5. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
  • If equipped, disconnect and remove the brake pad wear sensor.
6. Compress the Caliper Piston
  • Use a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to slowly compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
  • Ensure that the brake fluid reservoir cap is loosened to prevent pressure buildup.
7. Install New Brake Pads
  • If applicable, install the new brake pad wear sensor in the new brake pads.
  • Slide the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are properly seated.
8. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Position the caliper over the new brake pads.
  • Reinstall and torque the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 30 Nm).
9. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the manufacturer's torque specification (usually around 120 Nm).
10. Final Checks
  • Check brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
  • Reconnect the brake fluid reservoir cap.
