Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, pry bar, and safety glasses.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and place jack stands under the chassis for safety.
  • Remove the front or rear wheels (depending on which strut is being replaced) using a socket set.
3. Remove Strut Assembly
  • Front Strut:

    1. Remove brake line clips and any sensors attached to the strut.
    2. Unbolt the top strut mount from the engine compartment (typically three bolts).
    3. Remove the lower strut bolts connecting the strut to the steering knuckle.
    4. Carefully pull the strut assembly out of the wheel well.
  • Rear Strut:

    1. Remove the rear seat cushion to access the top strut mount.
    2. Unbolt the top strut mount and disconnect any sensors.
    3. Remove the lower strut bolts connecting the strut to the rear axle or trailing arm.
    4. Pull the strut assembly out.
4. Replace Strut
  1. If reusing the old spring, use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the coil spring.
  2. Remove the old strut from the spring by unbolting it from the lower mount.
  3. Install the new strut into the spring, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  4. Reassemble the strut mount and torque all bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (consult repair manual for specific torque values).
5. Reinstall Strut Assembly
  • Insert the strut assembly back into the vehicle, reversing the removal steps.
  • Ensure all bolts are tightened to the specified torque settings.
6. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel and lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Check and secure all components, including brake lines and sensors.
