Solution

💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Tools & Equipment Required

  • •Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • •Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • •Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the brake assembly.

Parts Required

  • •Brake pads (all pads on the affected axle)
  • •Brake rotors (if warped or damaged)

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and materials.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid any electrical issues.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench.
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the brake assembly.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner.
  • Remove the caliper bolts using the socket set and carefully slide the caliper off the rotor.
  • Suspend the caliper using a wire or bungee cord to avoid straining the brake line.
  • Remove the brake pads and inspect their wear patterns.
    • If uneven wear is observed, replace all brake pads on that axle.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and rotor surface with brake cleaner.
  • Check the caliper piston for proper retraction and replace if necessary.
4. Reinstall Brake Pads and Caliper
  • Install new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  • Use a brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston if necessary.
  • Reattach the caliper over the new pads and secure it with the caliper bolts.
  • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 25-30 Nm).
5. Reinstall Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts before lowering the car.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and then tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 100-120 Nm).
6. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure pads seat correctly.
  • Check brake fluid level again and top off if necessary.
