Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the vehicle.
2. Check Transmission Fluid
  • Locate the transmission dipstick and remove it.
  • Wipe it clean, reinsert, and then remove it again to check fluid level.
  • If the fluid is low, add the manufacturer-recommended transmission fluid until it reaches the appropriate level. If the fluid is dark or burnt, a fluid change is recommended.
3. Inspect and Repair Wiring
  • Remove the underbody cover if necessary to access the transmission wiring harness.
  • Visually inspect the wiring for any fraying, cuts, or corrosion.
  • Repair any damaged wires with appropriate connectors and heat shrink tubing.
4. Replace Transmission Control Module (if necessary)
  • If diagnostics indicate the TCM is faulty, disconnect the battery again for safety.
  • Remove the TCM from its mounting location, usually secured with bolts.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness from the TCM.
  • Install the new TCM by connecting the wiring harness, securing it with bolts, and re-mounting it in its original position.
5. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the battery terminals securely.
  • Use an OBD-II scanner to clear the P0700 code from the system.
