Solution

💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Tools & Equipment Required

  • •Remove the ignition coil cover (if equipped) using a socket set.
  • •Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil.
  • •Remove the ignition coil from cylinder 1 by pulling it straight out.
  • •Use a spark plug socket to remove the spark plug from cylinder 1.
  • •Inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling and replace it if necessary.
  • •Reinstall the ignition coil and reconnect the electrical connector.

Parts Required

  • •Spark plug (specific to engine specifications)
  • •Ignition coil (if required)
  • •Fuel injector (if required)

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for repair.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and ensure it is in park or neutral.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Inspect and Replace Spark Plug
  • Tools Required: Spark plug socket, ratchet, torque wrench, dielectric grease.
  • Remove the ignition coil cover (if equipped) using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil.
  • Remove the ignition coil from cylinder 1 by pulling it straight out.
  • Use a spark plug socket to remove the spark plug from cylinder 1.
  • Inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling and replace it if necessary.
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the new spark plug's threads and install it hand-tight, followed by torqueing it to 15 lb-ft.
  • Reinstall the ignition coil and reconnect the electrical connector.
3. Inspect and Replace Ignition Coil
  • If the spark plug is not the issue, inspect the ignition coil.
  • If faulty, remove the ignition coil from cylinder 1 as previously described.
  • Install a new ignition coil and ensure it is seated properly.
  • Reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Inspect and Test Fuel Injector
  • Remove the fuel rail as needed to access the injector for cylinder 1.
  • Use a fuel injector tester to check for proper operation.
  • If the injector is faulty, replace it with a new one and ensure proper sealing.
5. Recheck Compression
  • If misfire persists, perform a compression test on cylinder 1.
  • If low compression is detected, further investigation for possible valve or piston issues may be required.
