Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues.
2. Identify and Repair the Leak

a. Inspect the Brake Lines and Hoses

  • Use a flashlight to inspect the brake lines and hoses for cracks or corrosion.
  • If damaged, replace the affected brake line or hose.
    • Tools Required: Wrench set, line wrenches.
    • Parts Required: Replacement brake lines or hoses.

b. Replace the Brake Caliper (if leaking)

  • Remove the wheel to access the brake caliper.
  • Detach the caliper from its bracket using the appropriate socket.
  • Disconnect the brake line from the caliper.
  • Install the new caliper and reconnect the brake line.
  • Torque the caliper bolts to manufacturer specifications (typically around 25 Nm).

c. Repair/Replace the Master Cylinder (if leaking)

  • Remove the master cylinder by disconnecting the brake lines and unbolting it from the brake booster.
  • Replace with a new master cylinder if significant leakage is found.
  • Torque the mounting bolts to manufacturer specifications.
3. Bleed the Brake System
  • Refill the brake fluid reservoir with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 recommended).
  • Starting from the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, bleed the brakes:
    • Attach a clear tube to the bleed screw and submerge the other end in a container with brake fluid.
    • Open the bleed screw and have an assistant press the brake pedal several times, then close the screw before the pedal is released.
    • Repeat for all wheels, ensuring no air bubbles appear in the fluid.
