Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, torque wrench, tie rod end removal tool, grease gun, new tie rod ends.
  • Safely elevate the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chock the rear wheels.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel using a socket set while the car is on the ground.
    2. Lift the vehicle using the jack and secure it with jack stands.
    3. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Loose Tie Rod Ends
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use the tie rod end removal tool to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
    2. Remove the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering rack, then slide the tie rod end off.
    3. Inspect the threads on the steering rack and clean if necessary.
4. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply a small amount of grease to the new tie rod end's threads.
    2. Thread the new tie rod end onto the steering rack and tighten the securing nut to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (typically around 30 Nm).
    3. Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure it with the nut, also tightening to specification.
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
    2. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands using the jack.
    3. Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 120 Nm).
