Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, pry bar, stethoscope.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely lifted with jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical issues.
2. Remove Rear Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and support it with jack stands.
  • Remove the rear wheel to gain access to the suspension components.
3. Inspect and Replace Components

A. Inspect Bushings

  • Check the rear control arm and subframe bushings for cracks or deterioration.
  • If damaged:
    1. Remove the control arms by unbolting them from the subframe and wheel hub.
    2. Use a press to remove old bushings and install new ones. Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.

B. Inspect Shock Absorbers

  • Check for any oil leakage around the shock absorbers, which indicates failure.
  • If defective:
    1. Unbolt the upper and lower mounts of the shock absorber.
    2. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.
    3. Install the new shock absorber and torque bolts to the specified values.

C. Inspect Sway Bar Links

  • Check for any wear or looseness in the sway bar links.
  • If worn:
    1. Remove the old sway bar link by unbolting it from both the sway bar and the control arm.
    2. Install the new sway bar link and torque bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the rear wheel and torque lug nuts to the specified values.
  • Lower the vehicle to the ground.
