Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, ball joint separator, pry bar, grease, safety gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure safety while working underneath.
3. Remove Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
  • Set the wheel aside in a safe location.
4. Remove the Ball Joint
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the ball joint and remove the retaining nut using a socket.
    2. Use a ball joint separator to disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
    3. If necessary, remove any associated suspension components, such as the control arm, for better access.
5. Install New Ball Joint
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Align the new ball joint with the control arm and install it.
    2. Tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque (refer to service manual for exact torque values).
    3. Reassemble any suspension components that were removed.
6. Reinstall Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands using the jack.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the recommended specifications.
7. Lubricate (if applicable)
  • If the new ball joint requires lubrication, apply the appropriate grease to ensure proper function.
