Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, torque wrench, wheel chocks, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and position jack stands under the appropriate frame points.
  • Remove the wheel using a lug wrench.
3. Inspect the Wheel Bearing
  • Visual Inspection:
    • Inspect the wheel bearing for any signs of leakage or damage.
  • Play Test:
    • Grasp the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock positions; check for excessive play.
4. Remove the Wheel Bearing (if necessary)
  • Remove Caliper:
    • Unbolt and remove the brake caliper using the appropriate socket.
    • Hang it securely to avoid stress on the brake line.
  • Remove Rotor:
    • Take off the brake rotor by removing any retaining screws.
  • Remove Hub Assembly:
    • Unbolt the hub assembly from the steering knuckle.
    • Disconnect any sensors or wires attached to the hub (if equipped).
5. Replace or Repack the Bearing
  • If the bearing is damaged, replace it with a new one.
  • If it is in good condition, clean and repack it with high-quality wheel bearing grease before reinstallation.
6. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall Hub Assembly: Attach the hub assembly back to the steering knuckle and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinstall Rotor and Caliper: Reattach the brake rotor and caliper, ensuring all bolts are torqued to specifications.
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
