Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fluid catch pan, OBD-II scanner, multimeter, power steering fluid, rags.
2. Check and Top Off Power Steering Fluid
  1. Open the hood and locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  2. Clean the area around the reservoir cap to prevent contamination.
  3. Remove the cap and check the fluid level against the markings on the reservoir.
  4. If low, add the appropriate type of power steering fluid (consult owner’s manual).
  5. Replace the cap securely.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Hoses
  1. Visually inspect the power steering hoses for cracks, wear, or leaks.
  2. If damaged, use a socket set to remove the affected hose from the power steering pump and steering rack.
  3. Install the new hose by connecting it securely, ensuring no kinks.
  4. Tighten fittings to the manufacturer’s specified torque values.
4. Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  1. If the pump is found to be faulty, disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Remove the serpentine belt using the appropriate tool.
  3. Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting location.
  4. Disconnect the fluid lines (ensure to catch any fluid in a catch pan).
  5. Install the new pump by reversing the removal process.
  6. Refill the power steering fluid and bleed the system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
