Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Check and Refill Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake fluid
  • If the brake fluid level is low, refill it with the specified type of brake fluid (usually DOT 4 for BMW).
  • Ensure the reservoir cap is secured after refilling.
3. Inspect and Repair Leaks
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, brake line repair kit (if needed)
  • Visually inspect all brake lines, hoses, and connections for leaks.
  • If a leak is found, tighten connections or replace damaged components as necessary.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit or vacuum bleeder
  • Locate the brake bleeder valves on each brake caliper.
  • Starting with the furthest caliper from the master cylinder, open the bleeder valve while a helper presses the brake pedal.
  • Close the valve before the pedal reaches the floor and repeat until no air bubbles are present in the fluid.
  • Repeat for all calipers in the sequence of furthest to closest to the master cylinder.
5. Replace Brake Master Cylinder (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake fluid
  • Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder and remove it from the vehicle.
  • Install the new master cylinder, ensuring proper alignment and torque specifications for mounting bolts.
  • Reconnect the brake lines and bleed the system again.
