Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Lift the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheel for access to the suspension components.
2. Remove the Old Ball Joint
  1. Disconnect the sway bar link (if applicable):
    • Use a socket set to remove the nuts securing the sway bar link to the control arm.
  2. Remove the steering knuckle:
    • Remove the nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle using a socket wrench.
    • Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to detach the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Take care not to damage the knuckle.
  3. Remove the ball joint from the control arm:
    • If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, use a ball joint press to remove it.
    • If it is bolted, remove the retaining bolts with a socket set.
3. Install the New Ball Joint
  1. Position the new ball joint:
    • If pressed, use the ball joint press to install the new ball joint into the control arm, ensuring it is seated properly.
    • If bolted, align the new ball joint with the mounting holes and insert the retaining bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  2. Reattach the steering knuckle:
    • Insert the ball joint into the steering knuckle and secure it with the nut. Tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  3. Reconnect the sway bar link (if applicable):
    • Reattach the sway bar link to the control arm and tighten the nuts.
4. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  • Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands and remove the jack.
  • Repeat the process on the opposite side if necessary.
