Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Drain Contaminated Fluid
  • Tools Required: Fluid extraction pump, container for old fluid.
  • Use a fluid extraction pump to remove contaminated power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  • Dispose of the old fluid according to local regulations.
3. Flush the Power Steering System
  • Tools Required: New power steering fluid, hose.
  • Connect a hose to the return line of the power steering pump and place the other end in a container.
  • Fill the reservoir with new power steering fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to pump out contaminated fluid into the container.
  • Monitor fluid level and add more new fluid as necessary until the fluid runs clear.
4. Replace Contaminated Components
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, socket set, new O-rings and hoses (if damaged).
  • Inspect the power steering pump, hoses, and steering rack for any damage or wear.
  • Replace any contaminated or damaged components with OEM or high-quality aftermarket parts.
  • Reconnect all lines and ensure there are no leaks.
5. Refill and Bleed the System
  • Tools Required: New power steering fluid.
  • Fill the reservoir with new power steering fluid.
  • Start the engine and let it idle.
  • Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to help remove air bubbles.
  • Check the fluid level and top off as necessary.
