Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Remove Wheel Assembly
  • Loosen lug nuts using a socket wrench.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel to access the brake components.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspect Brake Pads: Check the thickness and condition. If worn down (less than 3mm), replace them.
  • Remove Old Brake Pads:
    • Use a socket set to unbolt the caliper from the bracket.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor, ensuring the brake line is not under tension.
  • Install New Brake Pads:
    • Apply brake grease to the back of new pads to reduce noise.
    • Position the new pads into the caliper bracket and reinstall the caliper.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • Check Rotors: Measure the rotor thickness with a caliper; if below the minimum specification or visibly damaged, replace.
  • Remove Rotors:
    • Unbolt the rotor from the wheel hub (may require tapping with a hammer if stuck).
  • Install New Rotors:
    • Clean the new rotor with brake cleaner to remove any protective coating.
    • Position the new rotor onto the hub and secure with bolts to manufacturer specifications.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach Wheel: Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and fully tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s torque specification.
  • Reconnect the battery.
