Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the replacement.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and secured with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery by removing the negative terminal.
2. Remove Front Wheels
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels.
3. Disconnect the Steering Rack
  • Remove the steering column shaft bolt at the universal joint connecting to the steering rack.
  • Detach any electrical connectors and sensors from the steering rack.
  • Remove the tie rod ends by loosening the lock nuts and using a tie rod puller.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounting points (usually 2-4 bolts) and carefully slide it out.
4. Install New Steering Rack
  • Position the new steering rack in place and secure it to the mounting points with the appropriate torque specifications (usually around 30-40 Nm, but check the service manual).
  • Reinstall the tie rod ends, ensuring proper alignment and torque (typically 45-55 Nm).
  • Reconnect the steering column shaft and tighten the bolt.
5. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid (check the owner's manual for the specific type).
  • Turn the steering wheel left and right to help circulate the fluid and eliminate air bubbles.
6. Reinstall Front Wheels
  • Put the front wheels back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque (usually 100-120 Nm).
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and check for any leaks around the steering rack.
  • Inspect the steering operation to ensure proper function.
