Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Ratchet
    • Serpentine belt tool or breaker bar
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
    • Allow the engine to cool before working on it.
2. Remove the Old Serpentine Belt
  1. Locate the serpentine belt tensioner.
  2. Use a serpentine belt tool or a breaker bar to rotate the tensioner counterclockwise, relieving tension on the belt.
  3. Carefully slide the belt off the tensioner pulley.
  4. Follow the belt routing diagram (usually located on a sticker in the engine bay) to remove the belt from the remaining pulleys.
3. Inspect Components
  1. Check the condition of all pulleys (idler, tensioner, and accessory).
  2. Ensure that the tensioner is functioning properly; it should not be excessively loose or tight.
  3. Replace any worn or damaged pulleys before installing the new belt.
4. Install the New Serpentine Belt
  1. Refer to the belt routing diagram and position the new serpentine belt over each pulley, leaving the tensioner pulley for last.
  2. Use the serpentine belt tool to rotate the tensioner counterclockwise again.
  3. Slide the new belt onto the tensioner pulley while still holding the tensioner back.
  4. Slowly release the tensioner to apply tension to the new belt.
5. Final Checks
  1. Double-check the belt routing to ensure it is correctly positioned on all pulleys.
  2. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
