Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack stands, floor jack, wheel chocks, penetrating oil, rubber mallet.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts before starting the replacement process.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Using a floor jack, lift the rear of the vehicle and securely place it on jack stands.
  • Remove the rear wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove Old Shocks
  • 3.1. Access the Upper Shock Mounts

    • Open the trunk and remove any trim or covers necessary to access the upper shock mounts.
  • 3.2. Unbolt the Upper Mount

    • Use a socket wrench to remove the nuts securing the upper shock mount. Keep these nuts for reinstallation.
  • 3.3. Unbolt the Lower Shock Mount

    • Locate the lower shock mount on the rear axle. Use penetrating oil if the bolts are rusted, then remove the lower shock bolt.
  • 3.4. Extract the Shock

    • Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its mounting position. You may need to wiggle it or tap it gently with a rubber mallet if it's stuck.
4. Install New Shocks
  • 4.1. Insert New Shock

    • Position the new shock absorber in place, aligning it with the lower mounting point.
  • 4.2. Bolt the Lower Mount

    • Insert and tighten the lower shock mount bolt to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 50-60 Nm).
  • 4.3. Secure the Upper Mount

    • Push the shock up into the upper mount and secure it with the previously removed nuts, tightening them to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 25-30 Nm).
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall any trunk trim or covers removed during the process.
  • Reattach the rear wheels and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Finish tightening wheel bolts to the recommended torque (usually around 120 Nm).
