Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials.
  • Tools required: Socket set, fluid catch pan, rags, flashlight, power steering fluid.
  • Safety warnings: Ensure the engine is off and cool before starting work.
2. Drain Existing Fluid
  • Place a fluid catch pan under the power steering pump.
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
  • Disconnect the return hose from the reservoir and let the fluid drain completely into the catch pan.
3. Replace Damaged Hoses
  • Identify and remove any damaged power steering hoses.
  • Use a socket set to loosen any clamps securing the hoses.
  • Replace with new hoses, ensuring they are properly seated and secured with clamps to avoid leaks.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Rack (if necessary)
  • If the steering rack is found to be leaking:
    • Disconnect the steering column from the rack.
    • Remove any mounting bolts securing the rack to the frame using a socket set.
    • Carefully remove the old steering rack and replace it with a new one.
    • Reinstall and secure all bolts and connections.
5. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • After all repairs are completed, reconnect the return hose to the reservoir.
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
6. Bleed the Steering System
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system.
  • Check fluid level again after bleeding and add more fluid if necessary.
