Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Gather Tools and Equipment
  • Tools Required:
    • Brake bleeder kit or vacuum pump
    • 8mm and 10mm socket or wrench
    • Open-end wrench (for bleeder screws)
    • Clear tubing (for brake bleeder)
    • Container for old brake fluid
  • Parts Required:
    • New brake fluid (DOT 4 recommended for E90/E91)
3. Remove Old Brake Fluid
  1. Open the hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir.
  2. Remove the cap and use a turkey baster or siphon to extract old brake fluid from the reservoir.
  3. Dispose of the old brake fluid properly.
4. Brake Bleeding Process
  1. Starting at the furthest wheel:
    • Begin with the right rear wheel.
  2. Open the Bleeder Screw:
    • Use an 8mm wrench to loosen the bleeder screw on the brake caliper.
  3. Attach Clear Tubing:
    • Place one end of the clear tubing over the bleeder screw and submerge the other end in a container.
  4. Bleed the Brakes:
    • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
    • Open the bleeder screw to let the old fluid escape until you see clear fluid with no bubbles.
    • Close the bleeder screw before your assistant releases the brake pedal.
  5. Repeat:
    • Repeat the process for the left rear, right front, and finally the left front brakes, ensuring to keep the reservoir filled with new brake fluid throughout the process.
5. Final Steps
  1. Recheck the brake fluid level in the reservoir and top it off as necessary.
  2. Replace the cap on the brake fluid reservoir securely.
  3. Dispose of the old brake fluid according to local regulations.
