Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Fluid Inspection and Replacement
  • Check Fluid Level:
    • Locate the power steering reservoir.
    • Remove the cap and check fluid level; add fluid if low.
  • Replace Fluid:
    • If fluid is dirty, drain the old fluid using a suction pump.
    • Refill with manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Remove the Old Pump:
    • Disconnect the power steering hoses from the pump using a wrench.
    • Remove the mounting bolts using a socket set.
    • Carefully pull the pump out of its housing.
  • Install the New Pump:
    • Position the new pump in place and secure it with mounting bolts (torque to manufacturer’s specifications).
    • Reconnect the power steering hoses and ensure they are tight.
4. Steering Rack Inspection and Replacement (if necessary)
  • Remove the Steering Rack:
    • Disconnect the steering column from the rack.
    • Remove the tie rod ends using a tie rod puller.
    • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounts and carefully remove it.
  • Install the New Steering Rack:
    • Position the new steering rack in place and secure it with bolts (torque to manufacturer’s specifications).
    • Reconnect the tie rods and steering column.
5. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed air from the system.
  • Check for leaks around the pump and rack connections.
