Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed: OBD-II scanner, fluid siphon, socket set, torque wrench, power steering fluid, and replacement hoses or pump if necessary.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and use a siphon to extract old fluid if it is discolored or contaminated.
  • Clean the reservoir and refill it with the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid to the proper level.
3. Replace Damaged Hoses (if applicable)
  • Identify any damaged power steering hoses during the inspection.
  • Use a socket set to remove the clamps securing the hoses.
  • Disconnect the old hoses and replace them with new ones, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Secure the new hoses with the clamps and check for tightness.
4. Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner with a socket set.
  • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump and remove the pump from the vehicle.
  • Install the new pump by reversing the removal steps, ensuring the lines are properly connected and torqued to specifications.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the serpentine belt, ensuring it is properly routed and tensioned.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level again and top off as necessary.
