Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and safely lifted using jack stands.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Using a lug wrench, loosen the lug nuts on the wheel corresponding to the shock absorber to be replaced.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel completely.
3. Remove Shock Absorber
  • Locate the upper shock mounting bolts, usually found in the trunk or under the rear seat for rear shocks, or under the hood for front shocks.
  • Remove the upper mounting bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Support the lower control arm with a jack or jack stand to relieve tension on the shock.
  • Remove the lower shock mounting bolt using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its mounting location.
4. Install New Shock Absorber
  • Position the new shock absorber in place, aligning it with the lower mounting point.
  • Insert the lower mounting bolt and tighten to manufacturer specifications (typically around 40-50 Nm).
  • Raise the upper part of the shock absorber into position and secure it with the upper mounting bolts. Torque to specification (usually around 20-25 Nm).
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle to the ground and then torque the lug nuts to specification (typically around 100 Nm).
  • Repeat the process for the other side if needed.
6. Final Inspection
  • Check for any leaks around the new shock absorbers.
  • Perform a test drive to ensure proper functionality.
