Solution

💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Tools & Equipment Required

  • •Remove the engine cover if applicable.
  • •Disconnect the ignition coil connector from cylinder 3.
  • •Unbolt and remove the ignition coil.
  • •Using a spark plug socket, remove the old spark plug.

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Replace Spark Plug
  • Tools Required: Spark plug socket, ratchet, torque wrench.
  • Remove the engine cover if applicable.
  • Disconnect the ignition coil connector from cylinder 3.
  • Unbolt and remove the ignition coil.
  • Using a spark plug socket, remove the old spark plug.
  • Inspect the spark plug for wear; replace if necessary.
  • Install the new spark plug and torque it to 18 ft-lbs (25 Nm).
  • Reinstall the ignition coil and reconnect the connector.
3. Inspect and Replace Ignition Coil (if needed)
  • If the spark plug is fine, test the ignition coil by swapping it with a known good coil from another cylinder.
  • If the misfire code moves to the swapped cylinder, replace the faulty ignition coil.
  • To replace, simply unbolt the faulty coil, install the new one, and reconnect its electrical connector.
4. Inspect and Replace Fuel Injector (if needed)
  • If the ignition coil replacement doesn’t resolve the issue, check the fuel injector for cylinder 3.
  • Remove the fuel rail (ensure the fuel system is depressurized).
  • Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connector and the fuel line.
  • Remove the faulty injector and replace it with a new one.
  • Reassemble the fuel rail and reconnect the fuel line and electrical connector.
