Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, fluid pump, differential fluid, drain pan, stethoscope.
  • Raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Ensure the work area is well-ventilated and clean.
2. Fluid Check and Replacement
  • Drain the Differential Fluid:

    1. Place a drain pan under the differential.
    2. Remove the drain plug using a socket.
    3. Allow the fluid to completely drain.
  • Inspect the Fluid:

    1. Check for metal shavings or excessive debris. If present, further inspection of gears is necessary.
  • Refill the Differential:

    1. Replace the drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 30 Nm).
    2. Remove the fill plug.
    3. Use a fluid pump to refill the differential with the recommended fluid until it starts to seep out of the fill hole.
    4. Replace the fill plug and torque it to specifications.
3. Bearing Replacement (if necessary)
  • Remove the Differential:

    1. Disconnect the driveshaft from the differential.
    2. Remove the mounting bolts and support the differential with a jack.
    3. Carefully lower and remove the differential from the vehicle.
  • Inspect and Replace Bearings:

    1. Remove the side covers and inspect the internal gears and bearings.
    2. Replace any worn bearings with new ones; use a bearing puller for removal.
    3. Install new bearings, ensuring proper alignment and lubrication.
  • Reassemble the Differential:

    1. Reattach the side covers; torque bolts to specifications.
    2. Reinstall the differential in reverse order of removal.
