Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: jack, jack stands, socket set, wrench set, and a pry bar.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to raise the front of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands for safety before proceeding.
3. Inspect Ball Joints
  • Visual Inspection: Look for cracks in the ball joint boot or any grease leaking from the joint.
  • Check for Play:
    • Grasp the wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions.
    • Wiggle the wheel back and forth to check for excessive play. If movement is detected, the ball joint may be worn.
4. Replace Ball Joints (if necessary)
  • Remove the Wheel: Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
  • Remove the Lower Control Arm (if applicable):
    • Unbolt the lower control arm from the steering knuckle.
    • Remove the bolts securing the ball joint to the control arm.
  • Install New Ball Joint:
    • Position the new ball joint in the control arm and secure it with the appropriate torque specifications.
    • Reattach the lower control arm to the steering knuckle.
  • Reinstall Wheel: Place the wheel back on and secure the lug nuts.
5. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands using the jack.
