Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.
2. Check and Refill Brake Fluid
  • Open the hood and locate the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  • If the fluid level is low, top it off with the recommended brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4 as per the owner’s manual).
  • Reconnect the battery terminal after checking fluid levels.
3. Inspect and Repair Leaks
  • Conduct a visual inspection of all brake lines, hoses, and fittings for signs of leaks or damage.
  • If leaks are found, replace the damaged brake line or seal to prevent fluid loss.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Using a brake bleeder kit, start with the brake farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear).
  • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal to build pressure, then hold the pedal down.
  • Open the bleeder valve on the brake caliper to allow air and old fluid to escape.
  • Close the valve and have the assistant release the brake pedal.
  • Repeat this process until fluid runs clear and free of bubbles, then move to the next brake in order: left rear, right front, and finally left front.
5. Replace Master Cylinder (if necessary)
  • If the brake pedal remains soft, the master cylinder may be faulty.
  • Disconnect brake lines from the master cylinder and remove mounting bolts.
  • Install the new master cylinder, reconnect brake lines, and ensure they are properly torqued.
  • Bleed the brake system again to remove any air.
