Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, pliers, fluid catch pan.
  • Remove the front wheels for better access to the steering rack.
  • Disconnect the steering shaft from the rack by removing the bolt securing it.
  • Disconnect the power steering hoses using pliers; ensure to have a fluid catch pan to collect any leaking fluid.
  • Remove any mounting bolts securing the steering rack to the vehicle frame and take out the steering rack.
3. Inspect and Replace Seals
  • Examine the steering rack for worn or damaged seals.
  • If necessary, disassemble the steering rack to access internal components.
  • Replace any worn seals or o-rings with appropriate replacements; ensure they match OEM specifications.
  • Reassemble the steering rack carefully, ensuring all components are seated properly.
4. Reinstall the Steering Rack
  • Position the steering rack back into place and secure it with the mounting bolts.
  • Reconnect the power steering hoses and ensure they are tightly secured.
  • Reattach the steering shaft and tighten the securing bolt to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
5. Refill and Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the manufacturer-recommended fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level and top off as needed.
